AVDLM receives 2015 SEGD Global Design Award

CGA is honored to have received the 2015 SEGD Global Design Merit Award for the American Veterans Disabled for Life Memorial, the first national memorial dedicated to the 3.5 million veterans living with permanent disabilities.

The SEGD awards were established to recognize excellence in experiential and environmental graphic design. The multi-disciplinary jury announced the winners during the July SEGD Conference.

One of the jurors commented, “This project is a powerful counter to the prevailing aesthetic toward abstract symbolism for memorials. The grittiness of the soldiers’ images is heightened by the illusion that the figures actually exist in space. A deeply moving contemplative place.”

The memorial design reflects the vision of Michael Vergason Landscape Architects. In designing the glass walls and stone inscriptions, CGA worked with MVLA and artist Larry Kirkland, who created the bronze sculptures. History Associates researched the interpretive content and quotations.
