Giving Tuesday – Design Philadelphia Designing for the Future
CGD attended Design Philly’s Designing Futures Annual Breakfast. Designing Futures is an initiative dedicated to empowering and inspiring young designers.
Throughout a student’s journey from elementary school to applying for their first design job, the program exposes children to the fields of architecture, graphic design, industrial design, and textile design, arming them with critical thinking, creativity, communication, and a collaborative spirit—fundamental skills that are the bedrock of any design field. In addition, the program helps students spark their creativity, introduces them to potential career paths, and ensures that the pathway to a design career is welcoming to all, regardless of background.
Dr. Andrew Phillips, a well-known and respected educator, award-winning architect, and CGD friend, was the first inaugural honoree of the Designing Futures program, a testament to the program’s credibility and its ability to attract high-caliber dedicated individuals.
His current firm, APPHILLIPS, is dedicated to offering design education consulting services and workshops to institutional, professional, and non-profit organizations. Andrew’s tireless commitment to marginalized communities is evident in his work, where he has helped generations of students develop their design agency as a vehicle for empowerment and positive change. Congratulations, Dr. Phillips!
In addition, CGD Design Director Linzi Eggers Saban volunteered in the summer workshop program. Linzi worked with kids ages 7-17 from various Philadelphia recreation centers on an intro to graphic design sprint titled The Power of Words: Poster Design. Work from the Power of Words workshop was seen on display today alongside other great student work created through Design Philly’s K-12 programs.
