Philadelphia Parks & Recreation – Benjamin Franklin Parkway

Arguably the centerpiece of the 9,200-acre Fairmount Park System, the Benjamin Franklin Parkway is a dramatic boulevard that welcomes visitors to the City of Brotherly Love with world-renowned museums and attractions. In conjunction with a major landscape restoration, CG created a sign program that supports the planning concept of “an activity every 5 minutes” for the thousands of visitors that stroll the Parkway annually.

Interpretive signs bring to life the Parkway’s colorful history; they also invite visitors to experience “what’s inside” the many famous institutions. Annotated maps keep everyone oriented.

In addition to developing a unique signage system, CG was tasked with creating the name of the district. After an extensive review with stakeholders, the name “Parkway Museums District” and a new graphic identity were created.

Notable: with over a dozen powerful organizations to bring to consensus, CG had to establish a compelling vision and an organized process to achieve the desired result: a unified and entertaining narrative for visitors.
