Wayfinding design and master plan for the Diplomatic Quarter in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia
CGD has recently completed a comprehensive wayfinding design and master plan for the Diplomatic Quarter (DQ) in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia. The DQ is home to over 60 Embassies, five affluent residential districts, multiple international schools, retail, and a beautiful natural walking trail with serene views of the Wadi Hanifah. It has become one of the models for future Saudi Arabian development and a significant tourist destination in the Middle East.
The sign system design sources native stone material for much of the signage, along with fiber-reinforced concrete and durable porcelain enamel panels, enabling the system to withstand the intense sun, heat, and the occasional sand storm. Traditional patterns and angular forms mimic the DQ’s distinct historic Salmani architecture, while LED illumination allows the signs to be visible to their residents and visitors in the evening hours.
The bilingual signage plan includes entrance gateways, vehicular directionals, identification pylons, park signage, walking trail maps and markers, and pedestrian signage.
